Eastern Garavogue Bridge and Approach Roads scheme
This is a bridge connecting into residential roads on the South bank of Sligo’s Garavogue river, with approximately 1.5 km of new roads on the North bank, to connect into the road network there.
This scheme was proposed in 2007 and has remained controversial since due to the limited community engagement, withholding of regeneration funds until councillors passed the scheme, oversized design, ecological damage to a Special Area of Conservation, high cost of the bridge and future maintenance, and lack of any traffic plan for the residential roads connecting to the scheme.
